Role Overview

The Farm Management Trainee will undergo a 12-month intensive training program combining virtual classroom instructions, hands-on greenhouse work experience, and leadership development. Upon *successful completion, trainees will be offered a permanent full-time position as a Farm Supervisor or Manager within Broadwater Pharm or partner farms.

 

Candidate Requirements

  • Age 21–39 years old.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Academic Certification in Agriculture (or farming related)
  • Passion for farming and willingness to work outdoors.
  • Ability to live on-site for the training duration.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior farming experience is an advantage.

 

Key Responsibilities

During the training program, you will learn to:

  1. Crop Production & Care
    Prepare greenhouses and growing media (soil, cocopeat, substrates).
    Manage seed selection, germination, transplanting, and crop training.
    Implement effective irrigation, fertigation, and climate control techniques.
    Identify and manage pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
  2. Farm Operations
    Organise and supervise daily farm activities.
    Schedule planting, harvesting, and crop rotation.
    Maintain farm tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
    Ensure adherence to health, safety, and hygiene standards.
  3. Leadership & Workforce Management
    Supervise farm workers, delegate tasks, and ensure productivity.
    Maintain staff welfare and resolve workplace conflicts.
    Communicate effectively with team members and management.
  4. Business & Market Skills
    Keep accurate farm records (production, expenses, stock).
    Assist with budgeting and cost control.
    Understand post-harvest handling, packaging, and quality control.
    Build and maintain relationships with produce buyers.
  5. Sustainability & Innovation
    Apply environmentally friendly farming methods.
    Explore value-added opportunities for crops.
    Suggest improvements to increase yield and efficiency.
